No Ms Universe but food was great I was always curious about Venezuelan food and a good friend of mine suggested to have a lunch meeting at Andinitas. The place is small (about 4 or 5 tables). The restaurant looks like a typical mom and pop restaurant that caters mostly to Venezuelans and Colombians. The place was nothing to be excited about, but I was looking forward to our meal. We had the chicken and beef empanada to start with and - oh boy it was so good. You have to eat it along with their homemade salsa and tomatillo dressing to truly enjoy the 'moment' when eating this dish. Cachapa is probably my favorite. It has a sweet corn pancake that wraps the marinated beef along with tomatoes cheese and onions. The Patacon is also worth mentioning if you like sweet plantains. Overall a good experience but was quite disappointed that I didn't see Miss Venezuela visit the place. You know how Venezuelan women always wins the Ms Universe pageant. But their empanadas are addicting. Thumbs up!

After reading about the arepas at Andinita's, I decided to make a lunchtime stop for my first Venezuelan food experience. As a starter, my friend and I ordered taquenos. The melted mozzerella in a bready crurst had the right amount of saltiness & chewiness, combined with a lightly crispy exterior. The green sauce in squeeze bottles accompanies it well, offsetting the richness of the taquenos. For my entree, I ordered arepas with beef, black beans, and plantains. The bread is round and lightly crispy. When the meat, beans, and plantains are combined, they turn into a deliciously messy sandwich, one of the better sandwiches in the Salt Lake valley. The beef is tender and moist, the beans add a smooth creaminess, and the plantains bring some delicious sweetness to the party. I'm looking forward to trying out their other offerings. Well, actually I'm looking forward to my friends branching out and trying something new--I'm sticking with the beef, black bean, and plantain arepas. Delish! The location is lackluster, but I'm not interested in the sizzle--I want the steak. Service here is a bit slow, but if you have time, the food is well worth the trip.

First time trying Venezuelan food and it was very good. The items I had were utterly unique, yet had flavors that were familiar. I started with three Taquenos (cheese in bread - think mozzarella stick) and they were great. I absolutely loved the green salsa the Taquenos were served with - very flavorful with a nice amount of spice. Next came the Pollo Patacon. It was very good. I really enjoyed the avacado sauce as well. In fact, I had a hard time choosing which sauce I enjoyed more and tended to alternate between each with every bite. All in all, I had fun trying something new.

Based on reviews and word of mouth I decided to give Andinitas a try, the place is kind of hidden in Carriage Square. I ordered a tripe soup that was especially thick and had hominy, garbanzo beans and tons of carrots, the flavor was good but I wouldn't order it again. we also ordered Arepas de Pabellon and where very tasty and very big, the empanadas where my favorite. They make me want to return for more, Andinitas has a very authentic and Homemade taste to their food, the cheese is amazing and will not disappoint. The fresh drinks are okay I was not too impressed with those especially since you pay $4.50 to $4.99 for only a 20oz....However I will come back for some super cheesy and tasty empanadas.

It should be said that I'm not really an expert of Latin American Cuisine. In fact my only experience with it has been a business trip to Miami. Naturally the food in Miami was amazing. It's hardly fair to to compare anything found in Utah to be the same quality. With that in mind I was thrilled initially to find a place that could scratch an itch that I acquired on my trip. They had some of the same things on the menu. It's a very small/local joint. The decor is very rough and the service was 'relaxed' but friendly. Honestly though, you don't come to a restaurant like this for the decor or the service. You want to love the food. I ordered the Bandeja Paisa, which looked to be one of their most expensive dishes. And from what I've read about the dish online, this was a meaty modified version. Lots of meat included. Definitely a full meal. It did sort of itch that scratch I mentioned but in all honesty it wasn't as tasty nor savory as I had hoped. I appreciate that they're here and I have them as an option, however it won't soon become one of my many restaurant addictions. I definitely hope they do well and expand their business. Maybe get some new decor and a larger space; even sell glasses of beverage rather than just the 'out of the fridge' cans. Best of luck.

I went with a group of friends to Andinita's last night and we all loved the food. None of us have been in Venezuela for years so the food was very nostalgic and it was all of great quality. The pabellon, cachapas, arepas, patacones, empanadas, and jugos were all authentic and delicious.
